Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start

Welcome to my very first post!

First a little about myself…

My name is Amanda and I am 23 years old. I love fitness, traveling and spending time with my boyfriend, my family and friends. In my down time you can catch me watching Youtube videos of makeup tutorials, and fitness bloggers. When it comes to work and school I am definitely a type A personality. I am extremely organized and I love to plan. Every second of my day is planned – I mean my life is pretty much bell to bell. BRING ON THE LESSON PLANS! (Really though, I have been commended numerous times for my ability to teach bell to bell. Planning your days hourly since you were 18 makes for excellent practice at time management skills). I try to always look on the bright side of things and I truly believe that when you give out good vibes the universe rewards you by returning those vibes. Positivity is key!

I am beginning my student teaching experience in just a few short weeks and I am super excited! I am currently a senior (super super senior, after changing my major and adding a dual cert). My major is secondary education with concentrations in history and special education. I have always loved school and history and teaching and I am amped to finally begin this journey. I go to a small state college that is known for their education program and is home to one of the state's most popular and resourceful disability centers. The program is rigorous and each education class contains a practicum requirement of some sort. 10 hours – 30 hours, observations, tutoring, mentoring and teaching. Up until now I’ve only gotten my feet wet. Now I will take the leap into the deep end.

So what’s the point of this blog?

Well, I can’t lie – I am pretty anxious about starting this experience. My history placement is in the fall and my special education placement is in the spring. A whole year of student teaching! A whole year of kind of being a college student/kind of being a professional. This summer, as I sit at my desk job wishing I was at the beach, I have been researching blogs and tips for this new journey. I could not find many blogs that catered to student teachers. There are tons out there geared towards teachers, elementary especially, but I want to know what to expect! How will I manage to still have fun and enjoy my last year? How will I manage an affordable wardrobe that speaks to my taste level? How will I afford working much less (if at all) after working 30+ hours a week all throughout college? How will I establish authority in the classroom when I literally look like I am a high school student?! How will I juggle a seminar, 5 classes at the high school, my boyfriend, my social life, and my finances? If this sounds like you, or a journey you soon will be taking or have already taken, read on and stick with me!
